Students who choose a semester or an academic year program in Argentina will live with a host family and attend a local high school.

Experience

The people of Argentina value family and tradition, and it is common that students will spend most of their weekends with their families just to have time together. Host families in Argentina are warm, eager to share their culture with students and to learn about American culture. Young people usually get together to chat, drink mate (tea), go to the cinema, play sports, see theater and listen to live music. No matter which part of the country you experience, you are sure to take part in many traditional Argentine barbeques, known as the asado. Argentines take great pride in spending time with loved ones and grilling up some of the best food in all of Latin America.

Learn

The Intrax program in Argentina offers students the chance to study in an Argentine High School. Fall semester programs run from July to December, and Spring semester from mid-February to July. In Argentina students select a focus, similar to the way Americans select a major in college. Focuses include Natural sciences, Social sciences, Economy, Biology, Art and Chemistry. The school day typically starts at 8 a.m. and runs until 1 p.m. Lunch, seen as the Argentine's main meal, is when the entire family comes home and sits down to eat together.

Within the Argentine community students can get involved in all sorts of extracurricular activities such as sports, music, theater or even tango classes. Some students also take time to learn more about Argentine culture studying aspects like the Gauchos, Argentina's famous cowboy culture.

Why immerse yourself in the Spanish language? Spanish is spoken by over 320 million people worldwide! While no previous language study is required, we strongly suggest that students prepare by learning some basic phrases in Spanish, as all classes will be taught in Spanish for the Academic Year, Fall Semester and Spring Semester programs.
