Full Brochure

Students who choose the Month Immersion program in Spain will live with a host family and experience the Spanish way of life firsthand, while practicing their conversational Spanish. The host family experience is the key component of this program and enables participants to gain a unique perspective into Spanish culture while providing invaluable language contact with native Spanish speakers. Participants do not attend school.

Experience

Spain is home to some of the best soccer (futbol) teams in the world, so it's no surprise that soccer is the most popular spectator sport. Bull fighting (corrida de toros), which is considered by some more an art than a sport, is another popular attraction. Students interested in participating in sports such as soccer, tennis, basketball, or swimming, often join private clubs.

Spaniards also appreciate the performing and fine arts, and are proud of their international recognition in these areas. Opera tenors Placido Domingo and José Carreras, as well as the painters Velázquez, Goya, Picasso, and Dalí all hail from Spain. Each region in Spain has its own folk dance, music and dress. One of the most famous dances of Spain, the flamenco, originated in Southern Spain.

Program Details

Students are placed with carefully selected host families throughout Spain. In the past, students have been placed in the Madrid, Barcelona, Salamanca and Andalucia areas. The Month Immersion program allows participants to experience Spanish culture in a way that a typical tourist cannot. Participants enjoy getting to know their host family, their community and the Spanish way of life while improving their Spanish language skills. Adjustment to host family life and Spanish culture will be assisted by a program representative.
