Our unique Western Europe tour is ideal for the student who wants to experience more than one European country over the summer. This exciting program will start in London, England, continue to Paris, France and conclude in Barcelona, Spain. In each country, students will be immersed in the local culture, architecture, cuisine, and language.
Learn
The academic content of this program will be the most diverse of all summer programs, including cultural elements specific to each country. Students will be exposed to literature, history, art, and culture utilizing these three major capital cities as their classroom. In London, students will visit the British Museum and attend a play in the theatre district. In Paris, students will sample French cuisine and study art history at the famous Louvre Museum and at the Cathedral de Notre Dame. In Barcelona, students will discover stunning architecture by walking past Gaudí's modernist masterpieces, such as the Sagrada Familia. In addition, intense Spanish classes will be offered, giving students time to learn or improve their Spanish.
Experience
Each week students will experience the culture and energy of their host country through walking tours, guided visits, and group activities. Typical activities facilitated by an On-Site Coordinator may include; museum visits, bike tours and cooking classes.
Travel
The Intrax Western Europe Tour is all about travel and exposure to new experiences. This program will cover three major European countries in four weeks:
- London- Students will walk along the Thames River and Hyde Park, tour Buckingham Palace, Parliament, Westminster Abbey, and St. Paul’s Cathedral. Then take the London Eye high above the city and look down on Big Ben, Trafalgar Square, and the Tower of London.
- Paris - Students will take "le metro" to Les Invalides and walk up the Champs-Élysées to the Arc de Triomphe. After ascending the Eiffel Tower, students will hike up to the Sacré Coeur church in the famous Montmartre district of Paris
- Barcelona- Students will benefit from both hills and beaches. Every corner is filled with amazing structures from Las Ramblas to the Columbus Monument. Take the cable car up to Montjuïc Hill and later walk through Gaudí's Parque Güell
- Program Finale Costa Brava of Northern Spain - The program will conclude with a special multi-day excursion of the Costa Brava of Northern Spain. Students will visit Salvador Dalí’s museum in Figueres and explore the Roman amphitheater of Tarragona. Then spend a couple days unwinding on the beaches of Girona or Sitges
Housing
In each city, students will be housed in twin rooms in centrally-located dormitory-style accommodations. The students will be provided with most meals. At all times, an On-Site Coordinator will be present to supervise students. In these lively residences, students will enjoy the opportunity to interact with Europeans and other students from around the world. There is 11pm curfew on this program .
Requirements
- 14 - 18 years old
- 2.5 GPA or higher (4.0 scale)
- Flexible and mature personality; desire to be challenged, ability to remain open-minded and tolerant of cultural differences
